My biggest take away from this video. Was just how mundane the origins of the internet seemed. All these big milestones were created by one person It feels like they don’t yet know just how big the internet will become. I find the early internet so fascinating. It does really feel a lot different than what we have now.
I absolulty love looking back at old geocities websites. They all look crazy but they just have so much personality in them and they really are a relic of a differnt internet in my opinion. That is why I was so excited when I found out we would be using neocities in this class. To me this is a way of bringing back the geocites aesthetic. In part my goal with this site is to be a tribute and love letter to those early pages. I think this video does a good job of highlighting an often overlooked aspect of the internet. THings do disapear from the internet, when the technology that supports then goes away. It reminds me of the death of flash at the end of 2020. So much internet cutlure was made in flash and it really is important to archive things like that. Both geocities and art made in flash.
